Bezirksgericht Linz (6L)
On November 16, 2023, the 6L class had the opportunity to attend a disciplinary process at the Linz Bezirksgericht. It was an informative experience that provided us with new insights into how trials are conducted.
Before entering the courtroom, we gathered in front of the courthouse and went through a thorough security check to ensure that no dangerous items were brought inside. Once cleared, we were taken to the hearing room, where we sat just a few meters away from the accused criminal.
The proceedings began with the judge verifying the personal details of the offender. This was followed by a review of the defendant’s extensive criminal record, which was surprisingly long. Then, the judge proceeded to outline the current charges including theft, drug consumption and drug distribution. Each time the judge mentioned an accusation, the offender interrupted her, heavily denying the allegations. He also made claims that were clearly false and attempted to shift blame onto others. At one point, he even suggested that someone else wanted him to go to prison because of marital problems. Throughout the trial, the accused’s constant talking prolonged the proceedings. As a result, we sadly could not find out what he was finally charged with. Nevertheless, this experience was fascinating and eye-opening.
All in all, it was a highly interesting and captivating trial. A huge thank you to our teacher, Mrs. Gauch, for organizing it, and to Mr. Ritt for accompanying us too!
