Insight into Humanitarian Work – Workshop with Markus Zorn

On March 3, 2025, the 7LMN & 8LMN classes got a firsthand look at what it means to work for an NGO! Markus from Medair shared his experiences in crisis areas, showing us the challenges of humanitarian aid. We asked questions, tackled real-life scenarios, and applied our classroom knowledge to solve problems. A truly eye-opening experience!

Einblick in die humanitäre Arbeit – Workshop mit Markus Zorn

Am 3. März 2025 bekamen die Klassen 7LMN & 8LMN einen spannenden Einblick in die Arbeit einer NGO! Markus von Medair berichtete über seine Erfahrungen in Krisengebieten und die Herausforderungen der humanitären Hilfe. Wir stellten Fragen, lösten reale Szenarien und setzten unser Wissen aus dem Unterricht praktisch ein. Eine wirklich inspirierende Erfahrung! Links: Medair, Markus Zorn

This workshop took place in our school on the 3rd of March 2025 and, in my opinion, is was one of the most interesting and informative workshops that I had a chance to explore for the last 3 years in our school.

The workshop was planned well and the presentation of the information was of a high standard. The speaker made the experience extremely fascinating and gained the attention of students in a short amount of time.

What I liked the most about this workshop, was that the students had a chance to experience decision making while being under time pressure and while thinking about moral aspects of humanitarian aid, discussing the most sufficient way to achieve the best results during a humanitarian operation.

We were also presented with a lot of information, covering the preparation process and safety measures that should be taken into account before deciding to visit places, where dangerous things could happen and cause injuries or in some cases have a lethal outcome. We were taught what to do in case of an emergency and how to behave when facing troubles.

In conclusion, I would like to say that this workshop was not only informative and gave students the ability to experience working in a team to increase the efficiency of a humanitarian aid operation, but also helped us to understand that our way of living is very different to the ways people live in different parts of the world, where the environment is rather unstable and where people lack basic necessities, such as food, clean water, medication, shelter, protection and energy. From the perspective of students, who deal with matters on a mostly theoretical level, it was valuable to be introduced to the practical reality of field work. (K.M.)

Overall, I am very thankful to have gotten this opportunity of Markus speaking in front of our whole grade and I suppose it is very important to inform people about institutions like Medair, how they work and what they do, in order to convince even more people into making this world a better place!
